CASE STUDY: 3,000m2 ATTENUATION POND - UXBRIDGE

Overview

In early June 2022, Keyline Civils Specialist was approached by a high-profile joint venture contractor to provide urgent material supplies to support the construction of a large attenuation pond as part of a major infrastructure scheme in Uxbridge.

Challenge

With the contractor part way through the construction of a 3,000m2 attenuation pond to cater for surface water run-off, the lining material that formed part of the original specification was unavailable in the required time frame. It was down to Keyline to source an alternative compliant material while avoiding any unscheduled delays to the construction of the pond.

Finding a solution

Due to the purpose and location of the site, a temporary lining system was required for the attenuation pond, which would be in place for approximately three to four years while work continued on site.

To swiftly resolve the matter, Keyline approached soil stabilisation and erosion control specialists, Greenfix. After reviewing the design requirements and final application, the decision was made to install Greenfix’s HDR400 Impermeable Liner.

The HDR400 is available in 620m2 prefabricated liners, which was vital to the contractor as it facilitated easy manual handling while minimising the volume of sealing required on-site. In total, five sheets were supplied, along with a NW3000 Geotextile protection fleece. The materials were swiftly supplied to site, and installation was carried out rapidly with the whole lining system installed ahead of schedule.

Why Keyline?

Darren Mildon, from National Sales at Keyline Civils Specialist, commented: “Having worked with the contractor for several years, we had built up a trusting relationship founded on getting things right first time. When the original product wasn’t available in the mandated time frame, we turned to our trusted network of suppliers to find a fast solution that wouldn’t impact the project’s tight schedule.

“Greenfix’s Technical Team were able to quickly review the specification and confirm the suitability of their HDR400 liner, which we immediately delivered to site. While you cannot always predict the next step when it comes to major infrastructure projects, having a supplier network you can rely on is invaluable and one of the reasons we have enjoyed so much success with the contractor over the years.”
