CELEBRATING 35 YEARS WITH KEYLINE CIVILS SPECIALIST

People are what makes a business special and we are lucky to have some fantastic colleagues here at Keyline Civils Specialist. Today, we are celebrating Nigel Worth, our Regional Operations Manager - North & Midlands, who has been part of our team for 35 years.

We caught up with him to find out more about his career with us to date.

WHAT DREW YOU TO KEYLINE ORIGINALLY AND HOW HAWS KEYLINE CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

I originally joined a company called William Monks Builders Merchants, who were acquired by Coalite Building Supplies and then became Keyline, when they were acquired by CRH. I first started with Monks as a youthful, slim 16 year-old 'Saturday lad' who was employed to tidy the showroom, stock and warehouse – as well as bagging the sand with the aid of the Branch Manager for the forthcoming week (eight shovels per bag!) I became disillusioned with school and earning a bit of cash got me hooked into the industry, as I enjoyed working with the team.

The industry has changed dramatically since then, probably too much to mention, but I would say that the safety of colleagues is the biggest positive change I have seen since I first started in the industry, alongside the introduction of technology.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT WORKING AT KEYLINE?

The family environment I work in. I have met many lifelong friends, staff, customers and suppliers. These are irreplaceable outside of my immediate family members – and to be honest I spend most of my day with work colleagues, more than I do at home!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANYONE THINKING OF JOINING KEYLINE?

If you have a vision of becoming one of the best, working in a safe environment with colleagues that have the same passion for looking out for each other and doing your best for our customers, then joining Keyline can be a great opportunity to creating a career – just like I did!

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT AT KEYLINE?

More than 10 years ago, I was asked by my then Regional Director to join a new company fundraising committee. The first meeting was held on a Friday afternoon, along with fellow representatives from each region to start up an initiative to select a charity partner that Keyline could support. We ended up choosing Prostate Cancer UK and the rest is history. There was only one unanimous winner and the partnership is still going as strong today!!

WHAT'S SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

In my early teens, my original career plan was to be a PE Teacher – not many people know that! But they do know I am a passionate Yorkshireman who enjoys a variety of sports.
