MEET THE TEAM AT KEYLINE EXETER

We caught up with the team over at Keyline Exeter to find out how they’ve established  themselves at the heart of the Southwest construction community.

“Since opening our doors in 2010, we have helped countless civil engineers and groundworkers source the materials needed to deliver hundreds of infrastructure projects throughout the region. Everyone who works here, from our apprentices through to our drivers and yard team really go about their day with a ‘can-do’ attitude, especially when it comes to advising our customers on the best products and solutions available. With next day delivery, we’re the top civils merchant choice in Exeter and there really is no challenge too big or too small for our team.” – Darren Taylor, Branch Manager

ABOUT THE BRANCH
“The Keyline Exeter branch sits on 2.5 acres of land and has a fleet of six trucks. This sets us apart from our local competition as we have the capacity to stock an extensive range of goods at any one time. We are also able to offer better logistic solutions as well as unlock the potential to support new markets. Whether it’s hard landscaping or aggregates through to geotextiles and drainage, our yard and transport capacity means we can get products to site within 24 hours. Given our location, many of our customers are working on projects which include a broad scope of environmental considerations. Again, having such an extensive  range of stock enables us to offer a variety of different options depending on what is driving  the specification.” – Claire Rider, Yard Manager.

“As well as our wide range of products, we also offer exceptional customer service and use our collective experience and local knowledge to help find the right materials for each job. This is key to achieving our goal of being the leading civils partner to the construction industry. It doesn’t matter if the request comes through via email, over the phone or in-person, we’re  always on hand to have big conversations and offer impartial advice on what will best meet the specification. We invite our customers to join us for strategic discussions to review a variety of approaches, backed by technical knowledge from our Keyline Technical team. I think this  ability to go above and beyond is why we’ve built up such loyal a customer base over the years.”  – Bradley Carthew, Sales Assistant.

WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU CURRENTLY INVOLVED IN?
“We are currently involved in a variety of projects throughout Exeter and the Southwest. These include major national energy infrastructure sites such as the construction of the new Hinkley Point C power station, through to more localised highways, housing, and rail applications including the Sherford community development and A303 upgrade. The diversity of these  projects really shows the breadth and knowledge we have here at Keyline Exeter as well as the wide variety of suppliers we work with. There may only be 15 of us, but there aren’t many applications we’re short of experience in.” – Darren Taylor, Branch Manager.

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL FOR 2023?
“From a branch perspective, aligning with the Travis Perkins Group’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy will be a key focus going forward. As a civils merchant, we’re well placed to influence the supply chain and push for sustainable solutions that can help build  a better world for us all.

“From a social value point of view, we’ll continue our outreach work with local schools and colleges. It’s important for us to invest in our own community and make the next generation aware of the fantastic opportunities available in the civils industry.” – Darren Taylor, Branch Manager.

“On a personal level, I’ve set myself the goal of completing my apprenticeship this year and entering Keyline’s Driver of the Year award. I joined the Exeter branch as part of my apprenticeship last year and I’m currently working as a driver. There is so much more to the role than delivering materials from yard to site, especially given Keyline’s FORS Gold accreditation. The team have really helped me push myself to unlock my potential, offering me advice to advance my career and help grow the business. Being among the top drivers for the company would be great for my own development and a real accolade for the branch.” – Richard Tatman, Driver.
