SHINING THE SPOTLIGHT ON OUR BRANCH OF THE YEAR – GLASGOW

We are so proud of all our branch colleagues, but it was with great pleasure that we were able to crown our Glasgow team with Keyline Branch of the Year 2021.

Here Regional Director, Gary Turner shares his insights into why Glasgow was the team to lift the coveted Branch of the Year gong for this year.

The Keyline Branch of the Year is a greatly anticipated part of our annual calendar when our colleagues find out who takes the trophy home during an awards evening of celebration and fun.

This year was no exception, and even though we still had to do the awards evening as a virtual event, spirits were high and we were lucky enough to enjoy entertainment provided by comedian Russell Kane.

As one of the hosts of the evening, it was extremely uplifting to hear all of the individual successes from the past 12 months from across the business but as Regional Director for the North I was thrilled that it was Glasgow that took the big award of the night – Branch of the Year.

Our Branch of the Year is decided based on how well each team scores in six criteria, that span safety, investment and development of people and performance. We also take into consideration their Employee Engagement Scores which are based on colleague feedback and satisfaction.

Our Glasgow branch really did excel in all areas this year, but there are some things that are really worth highlighting.

One is certainly how it exemplifies our ethos to “Grow our people to grow our business”. The 20-strong team, which is made up of branch colleagues and our regional sales office team, has a mix of both long-serving colleagues as well as up and coming talent. This balance of youth and experience combines to make Keyline Glasgow a great place to work and thrive.

The branch management is also a great example of how our apprenticeships and colleague career programmes can lead to amazing things.

Andy Stevenson, for example, began his career with us 27 years ago when he took part in what was then called our Bright Futures programme, where he joined as a trainee on a job seekers allowance, he’s now recently been promoted to Regional Manager Scotland & North East England. Similar success stories are also branch manager Chris Thompson and Mick Reed who have risen up the ranks via our management apprenticeship schemes.

We currently have five colleagues who are on our apprenticeships schemes and excelling in their chosen fields.

This culture of development, and the investment Keyline puts into our people, is something I’m so very proud of, and our Glasgow team is a shining example of how this leads to combined success.

And it’s not just career success that we look to nurture. Ensuring our colleagues can bring their whole selves to the workplace and have the wellbeing support to thrive is equally important. The branch is lucky to have a number of Mental Health First Aiders, colleagues throughout the business who support other colleagues if they need to discuss worries regarding their mental health, and a wonderful open environment that encourages everyone to take time to talk and share their concerns.

But whether it's looking after each other's mental health, investing in remote control cranes on all our vehicles or mechanical handling equipment to remove the need for colleagues to lift kerb stones and slabs, keeping anyone that comes into contact with our business safe is the team’s top priority and the responsibility of each and every Keyline colleague.

So a big well done to Keyline Glasgow – a very worthy winner of this year’s award.
